Philadelphia Academy of Surgery
Endowed Funds/Contributions
The mission and the scientific programs of the Philadelphia Academy of Surgery are supported in part by endowment funds. A description of the Funds that Support the Academyís Programs are listed below.

The Philadelphia Academy of Surgery is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation and all contributions are tax-deductible.

Resident Participation Fund
Invitations for surgical residents in the training programs in the Delaware Valley to participate fully in the meetings of the Fellows as guests of the Academy have been supported by individual Fellows. For those without the opportunity to invite trainees, donations can be made (in $75 increments) to support resident participation, particularly those participating in the Intra-City Grand Rounds and in the Resident Research Competition. Fellows or departments contributing to the Resident Participation Fund will be acknowledged at the Academy meeting when their donations are used. A $1500 donation entitles Fellows or departments to have a permanently named endowment to support one resident invitation each year in perpetuity.

The Gross Research Prize Fund was established by the Academyís founder, Samuel D. Gross, in his will, upon his death in 1884 and supplemented by the John F. Connelly Foundation in 1988. The fund is used to support the Samuel D. Gross Prize, awarded every five years for the best original research in surgery by an American citizen and one of the most prestigious surgical research prizes in the nation. The fund is also used to support the Resident Research Awards, given yearly.
